Research progress of nuclear medicine imaging in long COVID-19 syndrome

Abstract: Coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19) has spread rapidly around the world since its outbreak in late 2019. Many relevant studies at home and abroad have reported that most of the patients who have recovered from COVID-19 have long-term complications and sequelae of multiple systems throughout the body, that is, long COVID-19 syndrome (hereinafter referred to as long COVID-19). Nuclear medicine imaging has great potential in evaluating the occurrence, development mechanism and prognosis of multi-system involvement and long-term sequelae, which can guide the treatment strategy of long COVID-19 and evaluate the treatment response. The authors review the research progress of nuclear medicine imaging in long COVID-19. By summarizing the existing basic research and clinical transformation, the authors can promote the research on the pathophysiological mechanism of long COVID-19, so as to promote the diagnosis and management of long COVID-19, and improve the quality of life of the patients with long COVID-19.
