18F-FDG PET/CT imaging of tuberous sclerosis complex: a case report and literature review

  • Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant genetic disease with about 1/3 being familial and 2/3 being sporadic. TSC often involves the central nervous system, skin, kidneys, lungs and heart, and also involves bone in the whole body. The authors report a case of TSC in a middle-aged woman. The characteristics of TSC were analyzed from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT. The imaging features on 18F-FDG PET/CT were summarized through literature review. There are few reports on 18F-FDG PET/CT examination of TSC, but the diagnosis mainly depend on imaging examination. So get full understanding of its imaging signs are particularly important to make accurate diagnosis.
