Abstract:
The authors report the received radiation doses of medical staff during three cycles of
177Lu-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) radioligand-targeted therapy in one patient with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, using a novel infusion protection system. These doses were compared with those from conventional manual bolus injection and conventional syringe-pump infusion under equivalent radiopharmaceutical activity. The dose data for the novel infusion protection system were obtained from clinical in-situmeasurement, whereas those for conventional manual bolus injection and conventional syringe-pump infusion were derived from simulated operations. With the novel infusion protection system, the total received radiation dose for medical staff was reduced by approximately 97.28% compared with conventional manual bolus injection, and by approximately 95.65% compared with conventional syringe-pump infusion. The novel infusion protection system, combined with standardized specialized nursing, can significantly reduce the risk of occupational radiation exposure for medical staff and enhance the safety of
177Lu-PSMA radioligand-targeted therapy.
